What is Wordle?

Wordle is a simple daily word-guessing game that has taken the internet by storm.  

Each day there’s a new hidden five-letter word to figure out, and you have just six guesses to get it right .  

The game was created by Josh Wardle and later acquired by The New York Times.  

It’s free to play on the NYT website or app, and millions of people play it every day .  

The goal is to guess the word in as few tries as possible – it’s become a kind of daily ritual for fans around the world, who love comparing streaks and sharing their results.

How to play Wordle

1. Enter a five-letter word. Start by typing any valid five-letter word as your first guess. (Many players begin with a word containing common vowels and consonants.)

2. Check the colors. When you submit a guess, the tiles will change color: green means a letter is correct and in the right spot, yellow means the letter is in the word but in the wrong spot, and gray means the letter isn’t in the word at all .

3. Use clues to guess again. Based on the colors, make another guess. Keep applying the clues each time – you have up to six total guesses to find the answer .

4. One puzzle per day. There’s only one new Wordle word each day (the puzzle resets at midnight local time). So take your time, but don’t stress if you need all six tries – everyone sees the same daily puzzle.

First, remember the usual strategy: start with a word that covers lots of common vowels and consonants to narrow down the letters.  

Then focus on any green/yellow feedback.

Does today’s Wordle answer have a double letter?

Yes – today’s answer does use a double letter.  In fact, one of the hints explicitly says “Today’s Wordle answer has 1 repeated letter” .  

That means one of the letters appears twice.  Keeping that in mind (and remembering it starts with B and ends in S) should help lock in the solution.

The Wordle answer today is

Today’s Wordle solution (Wordle #1410, April 29, 2025) is BLISS .  

That fits all the clues: it begins with B, ends in S, has one vowel (I) and the letter S is repeated twice.  

The word bliss means “perfect happiness,” which ties back to the synonym hints about joy and happiness.  (No surprise there!) So if you guessed BLISS, you got it.

Switching gears to the NYT’s new puzzle: Strands.  

Strands is a word-search style game that the New York Times recently launched (similar to Wordle’s popularity).  

Instead of guessing one hidden word, you get a grid of letters and must find several different words that fit a common theme.  

According to Mashable, Strands is like an “elevated word-search game.”  

Words can be formed by linking adjacent letters any direction – up, down, left, right or diagonally – and they can even bend or twist in the grid .  

Every single letter in the grid is part of an answer.  

All the solution words share a theme, and there’s also a special “spangram” (a long word or phrase that spans the grid) that captures the theme.  

For example, in today’s Strands puzzle (April 29), the theme was “things with protective cases,” and the spangram answer was SHELLS , which runs across the grid.

Why Strands today is so difficult

Strands can be a real challenge – it’s purposely designed to be tougher than a quick Wordle.  

The biggest difficulty is that you’re only given a vague theme hint (like “things with protective cases”) and no list of answers.  You have to hunt for the words yourself.  

• As Mashable explains, Strands provides an “opaque hint” and no answer list, making it a true “brain-teasing game” that often takes longer to solve than a typical Wordle .  

In today’s puzzle specifically, the theme “protective cases” could mean a lot of things (for example, shells, nut shells, helmets, etc.), so you have to mentally brainstorm all possibilities and then find each one winding through the grid.  

Since the words can snake around and even change direction, it’s easy to miss one without scanning carefully.  

All of this – the single clue, twisting words, and full grid to search – is why many players find Strands quite challenging on a hard day like today .
